Another absolutely stunning macrophylla-hybrid from the hand of the famous Prof. A.P. Saunders! ‘Winterthur’ has been playing hide and seek a little bit since its introduction in the fifties of the previous century, and has hardly ever been offered anywhere. At an age where most are looking forward to their retirement, ‘Winterthur’ will be starting a new life at the beautiful age of 65. We will do all we can to start a new, much better available, life for this beauty. No Saunders-collector should do without, and actually we feel that this gem deserves a place in every garden!
Perfectly cupped, single blooms display fine symmetry. In all stages the flowers draw attention, as they open blush and fade to white. The foliage is always the most fantastic part of this type of peonies (for us). The lush, but neatly formed and super healthy, shining bright green leaves are a feast for the eye. ‘Winterthur’ has great vigour and can develop into a very impressive bush upto 85cm high (34”) and one meter wide (40”). A prominent garden piece, with the warmest recommendations coming straight from our peony heart!
