Top 10 of the most popular varieties of 2011
Below you find the Top 10 listing of most popular peonies among our retail customers from our 2011 catalogue. Between brackets you find the ranking of the same variety in 2010.
Just like in the Top 10 of previous years, there are no less than 7 newcomers in this year's Top 10. Hence, once more a very refreshing listing! 'Bowl of Cream' has done one step back and is this year's runner-up. The undisputed No. 1 of this list is 'Buckeye Belle', towering high above all other varieties. The fact that this very special garden peony was 'Peony of the Year 2011' will have contributed to this, undoubtedly. 'Buckeye Belle' made his first appearance in the Top 10...
Remarkable in this year's listing is also the disappearance of all -with all due respect- more common varieties, which performed so well in 2010's Top 10. Only 'Dr. Alexander Fleming' from this category can be found in this year's chart (and coming in 3rd, no less!), while not even in last year's Top 10 either.
Last but not least we find it worth mentioning the advance of the intersectional hybrids. These garden novelties are starting to get the recognition they so rightly deserve. No less than 3 intersectional or so-called Itoh-hybrids have entered this year's Top 10.
For us this year's listing is once more the strong confirmation that offering a huge and wide variety of peony cultivars is absolutely vital to meet our customer's desires.. Every year the Top 10 is completely different and just as unpredictable. For us this is what keeps it exceptionally challenging, and above all interesting.
